Google Play Store: Google has finally bowed before the Government of India and given partial relief to the Indian startup app which was removed from the Play Store. Google said on Tuesday that companies like Matrimony, Shaadi.com and Info Edge have been listed again on the Play Store. IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has also informed about this decision. Several rounds of talks were held in this regard between Ashwini Vaishnav, Google and the affected companies.
Ashwini Vaishnav gave information
IT and Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that at present Indian companies have been given relief from Google. The ongoing dispute regarding payment will be resolved soon. Ashwini Vaishnav said that we will soon present a long term solution to this issue. While announcing the return of the app to Play Store, Google said that we are with local companies. These companies will continue to work on Google Play Store as before. It will be able to provide in-app billing options to consumers. However, Google will continue to charge the full service fee. The payment timeline has been extended for these companies.
Google charges fees up to 30 percent
At present Google is charging 15 to 30 percent fees for in-app purchases and subscriptions. If app developers choose the third party billing option, Google charges 11 to 26 percent service fee from them. Such companies are given 4 percent discount. Google spokesperson said that we want to cooperate with Indian companies. But, we have our own business model. It has also received approval from various courts. That’s why we are implementing it.
There is a war on the issue of billing
For the last few days, there is a war going on between Google and Indian startups over the issue of billing. On March 1, Google had delisted the apps of more than 100 digital companies from the Play Store. These included Bharat Matrimony, Info Edge (Naukri, 99acres, and Jeevansathi), Shaadi.com and Kuku FM. All of them were not accepting Google’s app billing policy.
